Today, February 18 is celebrated as the first day of Chinese New Year for the year 2007. According to Chinese belief each year is represented by an animal. The year 2007 is the year of the Boar (pig). Last year (2006) was Dog year. There are totally 12 animals. Each year is named agaist one of these animals and after 12 years it will be repeated again. According to Chinese calender this year is year 4704. Chinese New Year day is the most important of the traditional holiday in China.
Chinese and the Chinese origin people around the world are celebrating the Chinese New Year day. All the family members will join together on the previous day itself at their family home or the home of the senior member of their family. On the previous day they perform a horough cleaning. Chinese believe that this will sweep away their bad luck. Then they cook food at home. On Chinese New Year eve there will be a reunion dinner in which all the family members will join together. They burn crackers and give gifts and golds among the family members to wish good luck and prosperity for the coming year.
